Hello Mustangs! We hope everyone had a good week and is doing their best to stay healthy and safe – hang in there, everyone! If your student needs a COVID-19 test, a reminder that LBUSD opened its student- and employee-only dedicated testing site this week – go here for all details!

And get some rest this three-day weekend… a reminder that THIS MONDAY January 17th is the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday and there is NO SCHOOL with classes resuming Tuesday January 18th.

PTA General Association Meeting THIS TUESDAY 1/18/2022 at 6 p.m. via ZOOM Please plan to attend the Rogers General Association PTA Meeting NEXT WEEK via ZOOM (link to come via school communications to all families – or feel free to email and request the link at rogersmiddleschoolpta@gmail.com).

At this meeting, PTA membership will be selecting its Nomination Committee, which is formed to identify a slate of eligible PTA Board Candidates for the 2022-23 school year. Elections for next year’s Board are held at the March 2022 meeting. It is important that we have a quorum at this meeting to form this very important selection committee to ensure the future of Rogers PTA for our students, staff, and families, so please plan to attend, consider joining this very important committee, consider joining the PTA Board for next year (list of positions and descriptions with interest form here), and share the meeting link with a friend or two!

Also at this meeting, PTA will discuss upcoming family events and other activities “for the kids” such as the Mustang Drive scheduled for later this year. Additionally, Principal Wood is scheduled to address membership at this month’s meeting. We do hope you can come to learn more about what is happening at Rogers!

We hope we can count on your support, voice, and vote to help with these efforts! Out of respect for everyone’s time, PTA is going to start the meeting right at 6 p.m. and make it a goal to keep the scheduled agenda to one-hour. Thank you for your understanding.

The next Rogers PTA Dining for Dollars is NEXT WEEK, Thursday January 20th, ALL DAY 11 a.m.-10 p.m. at California Pizza Kitchen (Long Beach Marketplace 6417 E PCH location)

***8th Grade Committee Update! Our 8th Grade Committee met earlier this week. Plans have started and are on track for a end of the year celebration at CSULB on Tuesday, June 14th from 6-9 p.m. Specific areas in need of help are as follows: Food & drinks; Candy Bar; Photo Booth; Decorations; Entertainment (DJ, other); and Advertising/Social Media. The next meeting is anticipated to be in early March. Any 8th Grade parent or guardian interested in helping in one or more of these areas or attending the next meeting to hear what is being planned are encouraged to email Danielle Van Divort at deesteinberg@yahoo.com (Subject: Rogers 8th Grade event; please include contact info and student name in your email to make sure you are added to the contact list!)

Hello Mustangs! Welcome to 2022! We hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Break and week back to school!

SAVE THE DATE! PTA General Association Meeting Tuesday 1/18/2022 at 6 p.m. via ZOOM Please plan to attend the next Rogers General Association PTA Meeting LATER THIS MONTH via ZOOM (link to come via school communications to all families soon).

At this meeting PTA will discuss upcoming family events and other activities “for the kids” such as the Mustang Drive scheduled for later this year. While EVERYONE is welcome and invited to attend this meeting, please note that only active 2021-22 Rogers PTA members are eligible to vote.

Teacher Appreciation Week 5/3-5/7 Teacher Appreciation Week is here! Although we cannot all be together, that doesn’t mean we can’t show A LOT of love for our teachers. Due to Covid restrictions, we are unable to do our usual week long celebration of our teachers. PTA will, however, be providing special lunches on Monday and Wednesday, and then a special treat on Friday. If you would like to show your own special appreciation for your child’s teachers, I’m sure they would love a special note, gift card, treat, or even a thank you email.

PARENTS – IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY, PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAILS, TEXTS, AND OTHER ROGERS AND DISTRICT COMMUNICATIONS AS WE APPROACH IN-PERSON PROGRAM RESTART DATES NEXT WEEK, TUES. 4/20 AND WED. 4/21!

In-Person Student Hybrid Program Return Date is Tuesday April 20th (Group A) and Wednesday April 21st (Group B)

PARENTS, please continue to look to school emails and communications – including Canvas and Parent/StudentVue – regarding your student’s program selection and all other updates directly from Rogers. Whether your student is returning on Hybrid In-Person or remaining on Distance Learning for the duration of the school year, these communications directly from School and District sources will contain valuable information for all of your schedules and calendars as we enter the last quarter of the school year. After several rounds of competition, Rogers PTA is happy to express a big congratulations to our 2020-2021 Jeopardy Champions: Nate Ward (6th Grade), Kevin Nguyen (7th Grade), and Sarah Madden (8th Grade). Special Congratulations to Kevin Nguyen for emerging as the All-School Champion. Great job, everyone!

COMING UP THIS TUESDAY! Rogers PTA General Association Meeting and Election The next Rogers PTA Meeting will be held THIS TUESDAY, March 16th at 9:15 a.m. via ZOOM. Please note this is the annual ELECTION MEETING, where all are welcome and members are invited to attend and vote for Board Members for the 2021-2022 school year. More details below on positions available and how to submit an interest form for position(s) on the Board for election eligibility.

Rogers PTA Board Is Looking for Board Member Volunteers for the 21-22 School Year! Coming up at the General Association meeting THIS TUESDAY, MARCH 16th, Rogers PTA will be holding its annual election for Board members for the 21-22 school year. Please note that per by-laws, in order to participate as a PTA Board member and/or to vote, you will need to join PTA as a member (only $10 online here – more info below also!). If you are interested in a Board position (full list of officers here), please download and complete a Board Interest form and email to: rogersmiddleschoolpta@gmail.com (subject “PTA Board 21-22”).
NOTE: Forms are DUE TODAY, FRIDAY 3/12.

REMINDER Please also note PTA is still seeking volunteers for open positions for this current year. PTA currently has two Board positions available, VP Ways and Means (Fundraising) and Community Outreach Director (handles Appian Way banner sales and other business partnership opportunities, one of our flagship fundraising programs annually). Uniforms Committee Chairperson (sweatshirts and PE uniforms) is also needed. These positions are open and ready NOW for people who are wanting to jump right in and get involved with Rogers PTA! SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENTS FOR 2ND SEMESTER 2021 Parents should have received a letter from LBUSD (Letter to MS/K8 Parents) prior to Winter Break with upcoming Middle School schedule adjustments as an effort to help reduce screen time for our students, and Principal Wood also re-sent the letter along with additional follow-up in an email to all parents dated 1/2/2021. REMINDER: Each Wednesday and Thursday during 2nd Semester will be minimum days (next Min. Days scheduled for Wed.-Thurs. 3/17 and 3/18, dismissal 2:18 p.m.). More information may be found in district and school communications regarding any schedule changes or adjustments.

Rogers Dining for Dollars Hiatus & Highlights | UPDATED FOR MARCH While Rogers PTA has suspended its Dining for Dollars partnership fundraising program at this time, PTA would still would like to help spread the word about local business and community by featuring a business who has partnered with us in the past! Watch this space each issue of PTA news for this month’s highlighted partner. For March, we would like to feature Wahoo Fish Taco (Long Beach Marketplace location).
