PTA General Association Meeting THIS TUESDAY 5/24/2022 at 6:30 p.m. IN PERSON AT ROGERS Please plan to attend the next Rogers General Association PTA Meeting later this month on campus at Rogers in the Multi-Purpose Room (former Home Ec Room – entrance off Monrovia) . Please note this is the final meeting for the 2021-22 school year.

Mr. Ching, Rogers PTA Teacher of the Year 2022.Items to be discussed at this meeting include the official announcement and recognition of our Teacher of the Year, Mr. Ching (pictured at R – CONGRATULATIONS!), funding for the 2022-23 school year, end-of-year commemorations, 8th Grade events and activities, and so much more to wrap up the current year at Rogers.

Principal Wood, who recently announced he will be leaving Rogers end of this school year for another LBUSD site starting next school year (good luck at Robinson K-8, Mr. Wood!), will also be recognized and also is scheduled to address membership at this month’s meeting. We will miss you, Mr. Wood!

While EVERYONE is welcome and invited to attend this meeting, please note that only active 2021-22 Rogers PTA members are eligible to vote. We do hope you can come to learn more about what is happening at Rogers – bring a friend or two!

We hope we can count on your support, voice, and vote to help with these efforts! Out of respect for everyone’s time, PTA is going to start the meeting right at 6:30 p.m. and make it a goal to keep the scheduled agenda to one-hour. Thank you for your understanding.

Horse head shot clipart image w a mortar board graduation hat8th GRADE COMMITTEE UPDATES | Parents and students, please look for a flyer and permission slip in the next few weeks that will be sent home from the school. The end-of-year party for all Rogers 8th Graders is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14th from 6-9 p.m. at the CSULB Student Union. 

MEETING DATE  The next 8th Grade Committee meeting will be THIS MONDAY MAY 23rd from 6-8pm (please email for the location).

THANK YOU to everyone who has donated so far! Haven’t donated yet? Please link to the donation portal specifically for 8th Grade events at the PTA store by using the link here. Let’s make it a night to remember for ALL of our 8th Grade students!

A BIG Thank You to the families who have donated to date! To clarify, please note that this celebration is not the promotion ceremony but a special, additional party being planned for our 8th grade students to have a last “hurrah” together as a class. A suggested donation of $25 per 8th Grade student is requested to cover the costs of the event for ALL 8th graders – DONATE TODAY! 

Are you a 2022-23 8th Grade Parent and interested in organizing/chairing the committee for next year? Please reach out to this year’s chair Danielle to see about “shadowing” at this year’s event in preparation for next year.

we need your help clip art sign display8th Grade Promotion Wednesday 6/15 | Help Wanted! The 2022 Promotion Ceremony for our 8th Grade Class is set for Wednesday June 15th from 9-10:30 a.m. at Rogers (outdoor event). The Promotion Committee is seeking a few helpers day-of to help manage a water station and other miscellaneous tasks associated with this event. Please go to the 8th Grade Promotion Sign-Up Genius to choose a task to help with.

Traditionally, our 6th and 7th Grade families have helped with 8th Grade Promotion tasks so our 8th Grade families can enjoy the event with their student, but please note that any Rogers VIPS who is available is welcome to come and help!

MBWA4064Rogers Music Fundraiser Festival TOMORROW Saturday May 21st, 4-7 p.m. | The Rogers Music Program will be holding its large annual fundraiser event outdoors at Rogers TOMORROW!

For those who purchased tickets for this event, just give your name at the gate, bring a lawn chair, and come enjoy Saturday in Rogers Park on 5/21, all while supporting the music program and our Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Band and Orchestra students. Monies raised will go back into the program in the form of music equipment and instruments/ upkeep, supplemental teaching and coaching, field trip opportunities, and other enrichment.

Not attending & or want to lend extra support? Bid online NOW at the Rogers Music online auction (all auction items close Saturday 5/21 at 10 p.m.).

open house text on sandwich board clip artSave the Date! Open House IN PERSON NEXT WEEK Wednesday May 18th 6-7 p.m. | Rogers is holding IN PERSON Open House later this month! Parents and students are welcome to come by during this event to visit classrooms, meet teachers, look at student work, and generally visit campus. This is a free-form event with no bell schedule, so make time to visit all of your child’s classrooms and spaces on campus that they spend time in daily. More info is available on your student’s Canvas tiles in the weekly bulletin and other school communications. We hope you can make it!

Parents and students, please look for a flyer and permission slip in the next few weeks that will be sent home from the school. The end-of-year party for all Rogers 8th Graders is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14th from 6-9 p.m. at the CSULB Student Union. 

MEETING DATE CHANGE: The next 8th Grade Committee meeting will be on MONDAY MAY 23rd from 6-8pm (please email for the location).

The 8th Grade Committee Still Needs Your Support! Haven’t donated yet? The committee is looking for 20 more families to donate $25 by Monday May 15th! They also need a total of $900 more in donations to ensure that every 8th grader who wants to go is able to attend! Hello Mustangs! We hope everyone had a wonderful week! Please remember that SBAC (State Testing) continues next week through approximately May 10th. Make sure your student rests up and grabs a good breakfast each morning and is on time and ready to go! You got this, Mustangs! 🙂

IMG_0975Teacher Appreciation Week Wrap-Up | This week May 2-6, our PTA community celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week and recognized our hard-working teachers and staff at Rogers!

PTA hosted a breakfast on Monday, which included coffee donated by Sheldrake’s Coffee (formerly Polly’s) on 2nd Street and cookies from Colossus Bakery (also on 2nd Street). On Wednesday, we hosted a lunch donated by George’s Greek Cafe, which is owned by one of our Rogers families. Today Friday, we will be hosting another lunch and will also present our teachers and staff with a small token of our appreciation.

Throughout the month of May, PTA will continue the celebration by stocking the Rogers  lounge refrigerator with drinks and provide snacks for our teachers and staff to say thank you for all they do!

A BIG and VERY special thank you to the many parents who assisted with setting up and serving the meals: Sarah Balusik, Shana Balladares, Laura Carson, Cara Murillo, Kavita Huerta, Jane Thompson, and Kelli Urbano.

We also want to recognize all the parents and others who donated food, drinks, snacks and serving utensils and plates… PTA couldn’t make ANY of this happen without you! PTA loves ALL of its teachers, staff, VIPS, and volunteers! THANK YOU!

Rogers Middle School PTA logo thumbnail social image b.wRogers PTA Elections Meeting IN PERSON THIS TUESDAY March 22nd at 6:30pm Elections for the 2022-23 Board are scheduled for the next General Association meeting, which will be held IN PERSON at Rogers in the former Home Rec Room (where PE Uniform/Rogers Sweatshirt sales happened at the beginning of the year; please enter from the door off of Monrovia).

We are so excited to be able to welcome everyone back to campus for this first in-person PTA meeting since January 2020! We hope you can make it! All are welcome… and please bring a friend! WE NEED A QUORUM TO BE ABLE TO HOLD OUR ELECTIONS. All Rogers PTA members who have joined by February 22nd are also eligible to vote in the elections. More information regarding the elections is posted in the March 11th issue of the PTA News.

In addition to our annual elections, PTA will be honoring the top three student finishers of the Jeopardy Tournament and also recognize the Reflections contest participants, and we will also be approving our mid-year audit and monthly financials and getting updates (and approving contracts) related to the Mustang Drive and 8th Grade Event. Principal Wood will also provide updates on what is happening at Rogers as well.

So much fun happening, Mustangs… We hope to see you Tuesday!

Mustang Drive kicks off THIS MONDAY, March 21st! This is our most important fundraiser of the year and supports enrichment programs, field trips, student programs, and teacher wish lists. At the kick-off, students will get information on how to sign up and the prizes they can win!

How can parents help? 

  • Sign up: https://pledgestar.com/rogers/
  • Add family and friends to send donation requests by email or text.
  • Post a donation request on social media, especially Facebook, using the option appearing after adding your donors. This has been proven to be very effective!
  • Purchase a Mustang Drive T-shirt at the PTA web store

We are looking for T-shirt sponsors! T-shirts are very popular among students since they can wear them year-round. Your logo will be on the back of the T-shirt, providing you with excellent exposure. Your business will be appreciated and seen by Rogers families and the community throughout the school year and into the following. A limited number of spots are available! You can purchase a sponsorship at the PTA web store.

Rogers 8th Grade Party Flyer for fundraising for event date 6-14-20228th GRADE SUPPORT NEEDED! The end-of-year party for all Rogers 8th Graders is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14th from 6-9 p.m. at the CSULB Student Union.

The 8th Grade Committee needs your donations by Monday, April 4th to make it happen! A flyer went home to all 8th graders explaining the event along with how you can help to support the effort. This will be a glow-in-the-dark themed, parent supervised event with a mac-and-cheese bar, tater tot bar, candy bar, live DJ, dancing, bowling, billiards, shuffleboard, air hockey, a photo booth, and MORE! You can link to the donation portal specifically for 8th Grade events on the image to the right at the PTA store or use the link here. A suggested donation of $25 per 8th Grade student is requested to cover the costs of the event for ALL 8th graders – to date the committee has already raised over $1500 thanks to the generosity of 32 families … but they still have a ways to go to meet their event fundraising goal – DONATE TODAY!

Operation Easter Basket is returning to Rogers March 28-April 8! Rogers Middle School will be joining forces with Justin Rudd to fill Easter baskets for children of families in need. This is our 13th year participating in the event and we are excited to make a difference in our community. We are collecting for ages 0-16. If you can help us spread some spring cheer, the following items would be appreciated:

Hygiene Items | (Preferably full sized) soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, bubble bath,  toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, nail polish, nail file, hand sanitizer, hair accessories, face wash, razors, shaving cream, hair ties, loofa, diapers, baby shampoo, baby powder, baby bottles, and hair brushes.

New Toys | Cars, balls (all sports), small Lego sets, playing cards, yo-yos, slinky, Easter toys, jump ropes, small stuffed animals, and plastic baseball bat sets.

New School Supplies | Pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, box of crayons, markers, colored pencils, stamps with ink pads, crossword puzzles books, drawing pads, notebook paper, calculators, rulers, erasers, journals, chalk, pencil bag, highlighters, post-it notes, whiteout, glue, and paint sets.

  • SAVE THE DATE! we need your help clip art sign displayPTA ONLINE STORE COORDINATOR WANTED! PTA is seeking a volunteer to handle its online store, which offers items such as the Rogers sweatshirts, PE uniforms, memberships, banner sponsorships, and other specific activity donation collection portals.

The ideal person should be tech savvy, and experience with Square or Weebly would be helpful. Tasks include creating new items as needed, coordinating with the financial secretary to make sure categories match budget line items, updating inventory as needed, and generating sales reports each month.

As this work is typically done online and off campus and apart from students and staff, you do not require VIPS clearance to fill this position. If you are interested in this volunteer position, please email rogersmiddleschoolpta@gmail.com (Subject: PTA Online Store Coordinator Position)

***8th Grade Committee Update! Plans have started and are on track for a end of the year celebration at CSULB on Tuesday, June 14th from 6-9 p.m. Specific areas in need of help are as follows: Food & drinks; Candy Bar; Photo Booth; Decorations; Entertainment (DJ, other); and Advertising/Social Media. The next meeting is anticipated for early March. Any 8th Grade parent or guardian interested in helping in one or more of these areas or attending the next meeting to hear what is being planned should please email Danielle Van Divort at deesteinberg@yahoo.com (Subject: Rogers 8th Grade event; please include contact info and student name in your email to make sure you are added to the contact list!)

Dining for Dollars UPDATES Big thanks to all those who attended last night’s January event at CPK at the LB Marketplace! Rogers PTA also wants to give a shout out to George’s Greek Cafe, who sponsored the December event, and to those who attended and supported the event, which generated a generous donation of $200 toward student and school programming and events! Finally, looking ahead, next up on the Dining for Dollars calendar is Chipotle, which will be on Wednesday March 2nd. Watch this space for more details as the date approaches! SAVE THE DATE! PTA General Association Meeting Tuesday 1/18/2022 at 6 p.m. via ZOOM Please plan to attend the next Rogers General Association PTA Meeting LATER THIS MONTH via ZOOM (link to come via school communications to all families soon).

At this meeting PTA will discuss upcoming family events and other activities “for the kids” such as the Mustang Drive scheduled for later this year. While EVERYONE is welcome and invited to attend this meeting, please note that only active 2021-22 Rogers PTA members are eligible to vote.

Please also note that the January meeting is when PTA membership selects its Nomination Committee, which is formed to identify a slate of eligible PTA Board Candidates for the 2022-23 school year. Elections for next year’s Board are held at the March 2022 meeting. It is important that we have a quorum at this meeting to form this very important selection committee to ensure the future of Rogers PTA for our students, staff, and families, so please plan to attend and share the meeting link with a friend or two!

Principal Wood also is scheduled to address membership at this month’s meeting. We do hope you can come to learn more about what is happening at Rogers!

We hope we can count on your support, voice, and vote to help with these efforts! Out of respect for everyone’s time, PTA is going to start the meeting right at 6 p.m. and make it a goal to keep the scheduled agenda to one-hour. Thank you for your understanding.

Rogers PTA Dining for Dollars on January 20 2022 - flyer to come.

Dining for Dollars at CPK Thursday January 20th! Rogers PTA’s next Dining for Dollars event will be at California Pizza Kitchen (Long Beach Marketplace 6417 E PCH location) later this month on Thursday January 20th, all day from 11am to 10pm!

Dine-in or take-out on this date at this location earns Rogers PTA 20 percent back on your purchase!

You can participate in this fundraiser by doing any of the following on January 20th at the Long Beach Marketplace location:
(1) presenting paper flyer to the server for dine-in (official flyer coming soon),
(2) showing a digital copy of the flyer to the server from any mobile device for dine-in or take-out (official flyer coming soon – check back here, our social media channels, or the Dining for Dollars website page for updates),
(3) showing the server a social media announcement promoting the fundraiser for dine-in or take-out, or
