Hello Mustangs! We hope everyone had a good week and is doing their best to stay healthy and safe – hang in there, everyone! Home COVID tests are scheduled to be sent home TODAY with all students ASAP to assist you with monitoring your student’s symptoms and overall health status. Additionally, if your student needs a COVID-19 test witnessed or from a lab, a reminder that LBUSD opened its student- and employee-only dedicated testing site at Cabrillo HS this month for both PCR and Antigen testing – go here for all details!

We had a GREAT turnout and because of you we were able to select our Nominating Committee, which is formed to identify a slate of eligible PTA Board Candidates for the 2022-23 school year.

MEETING AND ELECTIONS NOTICE |  Elections for next year’s Board will be scheduled for the next General Association meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, March 22nd.

***8th Grade Committee Update! Plans have started and are on track for a end of the year celebration at CSULB on Tuesday, June 14th from 6-9 p.m. Specific areas in need of help are as follows: Food & drinks; Candy Bar; Photo Booth; Decorations; Entertainment (DJ, other); and Advertising/Social Media. The next meeting is anticipated for early March. Any 8th Grade parent or guardian interested in helping in one or more of these areas or attending the next meeting to hear what is being planned should please email Danielle Van Divort at deesteinberg@yahoo.com (Subject: Rogers 8th Grade event; please include contact info and student name in your email to make sure you are added to the contact list!)

VIPS UPDATE! Speaking of helping out, if you are interested in becoming a VIPS for Rogers Middle School and you no longer have an active VIPS badge for our school site, only have a badge for another site (previous elementary, etc.), or never have been processed as a VIPS with LBUSD, please email Karina Vasquez in the school’s front office at kvasquez@lbschools.net to start the application process. Dining for Dollars UPDATES Big thanks to all those who attended last night’s January event at CPK at the LB Marketplace! Rogers PTA also wants to give a shout out to George’s Greek Cafe, who sponsored the December event, and to those who attended and supported the event, which generated a generous donation of $200 toward student and school programming and events! Finally, looking ahead, next up on the Dining for Dollars calendar is Chipotle, which will be on Wednesday March 2nd. Watch this space for more details as the date approaches! And get some rest this three-day weekend… a reminder that THIS MONDAY January 17th is the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday and there is NO SCHOOL with classes resuming Tuesday January 18th.

PTA General Association Meeting THIS TUESDAY 1/18/2022 at 6 p.m. via ZOOM Please plan to attend the Rogers General Association PTA Meeting NEXT WEEK via ZOOM (link to come via school communications to all families – or feel free to email and request the link at rogersmiddleschoolpta@gmail.com).

At this meeting, PTA membership will be selecting its Nomination Committee, which is formed to identify a slate of eligible PTA Board Candidates for the 2022-23 school year. Elections for next year’s Board are held at the March 2022 meeting. It is important that we have a quorum at this meeting to form this very important selection committee to ensure the future of Rogers PTA for our students, staff, and families, so please plan to attend, consider joining this very important committee, consider joining the PTA Board for next year (list of positions and descriptions with interest form here), and share the meeting link with a friend or two!

Also at this meeting, PTA will discuss upcoming family events and other activities “for the kids” such as the Mustang Drive scheduled for later this year. Additionally, Principal Wood is scheduled to address membership at this month’s meeting. We do hope you can come to learn more about what is happening at Rogers!

We hope we can count on your support, voice, and vote to help with these efforts! Out of respect for everyone’s time, PTA is going to start the meeting right at 6 p.m. and make it a goal to keep the scheduled agenda to one-hour. Thank you for your understanding.

Hello Mustangs! We hope everyone had a wonderful week!

Hope you are ready for… WINTER BREAK… which begins with today’s Minimum Day 2:18 p.m. dismissal! Winter Break is from Monday December 20th through Friday December 31st, with classes resuming on Monday January 3, 2022. Have a good time celebrating with family and friends, resting, and recharging, and we will see you in 2022!

ROGERS RESCUE MISSION and GIVING TREE DONATION DRIVES Rogers PTA thanks everyone who stepped up to give to our donation drives this holiday season! All donations of gift cards and goods collected will help to make a difference both within our Rogers Community directly and across greater Long Beach through a wide swath of organizations and outreach programs. PTA also extends a very special thanks to our Student Council and Rogers front office staff for helping to support and organize these efforts.

ROGERS RESCUE MISSION 2021 -AND- GIVING TREE GIFT CARD DONATIONS DUE NEXT WEEK WED. DECEMBER 15TH! Tis the season for… GIVING BACK! Rogers Middle School returns this holiday season with its annual holiday donation drive efforts, offering a wide variety of options for our generous families to choose from and a range of organizations to support, all the way down to keeping donations hyper-local right within our own Rogers community!

The Rogers Giving Tree Gift Card Drive is accepting donations of gift cards in any amount to the front office from 11/15 through 12/8 2021. Gift cards for gas, groceries, "big box" stores, and fast-food and fast-casual chain restaurants are all good options for this donation drive. Gift cards may be left at the front office of the school during regular hours of operation (students may drop before school).EXTENDED! GIFT CARD DONATIONS DUE TO THE OFFICE BY NEXT WEDNESDAY 12/15! The Rogers front office staff has EXTENDED THE DEADLINE for the Rogers Giving Tree this holiday season! This is a gift card donation drive and is a program that supports families right here within our own Rogers school community. Gift cards such as ones for grocery stores, “big box” stores (like Walmart, Target, etc.), fast-food or fast-casual chain restaurants, and gas are requested in any amount that you are able to donate ($5 and up). The Rogers Giving Tree is accepting all gift card donation drop-offs from families at the front office anytime during school hours (students may come by the office before school to drop-off) NOW through NEXT WEEK, WEDNESDAY 12/15.

Rogers Rescue Mission 2021 is supporting a wide variety of organizations this holiday season from Nov. 29th to Dec. 15th.This season, the Rogers Rescue Mission under the partnership of Rogers PTA and Rogers Student Council/ASB will be supporting Food Finders, New Life Beginnings, and the shower program at St. Luke’s. Please refer to the image posted above for a full wish-list of items in need by each program. These donations may be dropped off by students in the ASB room off Mustang Park before school or to the main entrance or brought to the office as soon as possible during school hours. The Rogers Rescue Mission is accepting all listed donation items NOW through the final drop-off date NEXT WEEK no later than Wednesday 12/15.

Rogers PTA is here this holiday season to help support Rogers Student Council and the office staff with these donation drive efforts. INCENTIVE UPDATES Last week, Principal Wood conducted the final raffles to determine the recipients of the various individual incentives PTA offered during this year’s Membership Drive. He then announced the names in a special end-of-day audio broadcast to all students last Friday 11/5. This included the announcement of the class party recipient for highest participation percentage. A BIG Congratulations to Mr. Hamilton’s 1st Period class on receiving this recognition with a class participation level of 114 percent… more memberships returned than students in the class!

A reminder that Rogers PTA is able to offer a few incentives for joining PTA during our Membership Drive this year!

JOIN PTA BY THIS SUNDAY OCTOBER 31, 2021 and Receive Great Incentives!

  • Any student who becomes a member (or returns a membership) will be entered into a drawing for a $50 AMC gift card. One entry limit per student
  • Any student who returns four (4) or more memberships will be entered into a drawing for a “Front of the Line” pass to be used at lunch AND all Rogers student activity days for the entire 2021-2022 school year! One entry limit per student
  • Any 8th Grade student who becomes a member (or returns a membership) will be entered into a drawing for 4 reserved front-row seats at 8th Grade Promotion! One entry limit per student
  • The 1st Period class with the highest percentage of memberships will receive an in-class party!
  • PTA thrives on several business partnerships that offer member discounts and benefits, including Hertz, Farm Fresh to You and Tick Talk.  Go to http://www.capta.org for more information.

PTA’s goal for membership is one membership per student. Rogers currently has an enrollment of around 800 students. The count as of October 28th shows that Rogers PTA has signed up 531 total members! This includes 267 members who have joined or renewed online via TOTEM, PTA’s online membership portal. We are currently two-thirds of the way to our drive’s goal with just TWO DAYS LEFT! We are doing GREAT – but we still have more work to do and really REALLY could use your support to meet our goals!
